This week we were told the group would be split into two to allow an debate to take place. We were given prepation time to research our side of the debate and then the debate would take place the following week.

The motion under discussion:
This house believes that File Sharing should be legal and culture on the Internet should be free.

"In 2010 the UK Government passed the Digital Economy Act which sought to make the enforcement of laws against online file sharing more effective.  The passing of the Act was met with extremes of support and opposition. The purpose of this debate is for you to explore why file sharing remains such a contentious issue for networked media."

I was placed within the Pro-motion - For File sharing so considered the following;

What are the benefits of file sharing?
What problems does copyright law pose for culture in an online world?
What arguments can you find for a change in copyright laws due to these problems?
Is anti file sharing legislation enforceable online?
Are there alternatives to copyright? Use examples to demonstrate your arguments.
Consider the relationship between file-sharing and different types of content such as film, music, software and Journalism.

 To further my research I watched the recomenned videos the one that stood out in particular was 'The Remix Manifesto' - below is a link to the video.
